A 3-alarm fire tore through an auto repair shop in the Dutch Kills section of Long Island City early Monday morning – leaving three firefighters with minor injuries.
The FDNY responded to a blaze shortly after 2 a.m. at a one-story building located at 38-21 23rd St., near the corner of 39th Avenue, fire officials said.
Flames could be seen rising up through the roof of the building while heavy smoke billowed out of the front of the shop, video posted online shows.
At least one tower ladder truck was put into operation while more than a dozen firefighters climbed onto the roof of the building to extinguish the blaze.
The inferno was brought under control at around 4:45 a.m., the FDNY said.
It is unclear what sparked the blaze. ABC7 News reported that a car inside the premises caught on fire and then the flames spread throughout the building, although the FDNY could not confirm this.
The Fire Marshal will ultimately determine the cause of the fire and an investigation is ongoing, the FDNY said.
