A popular Colombian coffee roaster opened its doors on the ground floor of a residential tower in Long Island City earlier this month.
The Durst Organization, which owns Sven — the agency’s 71-story residential tower located at 29-59 Northern Blvd. — announced the grand opening of Pueblo Querido Coffee Roasters on the ground floor of the building on Monday, July 8. Sven is the coffee roaster’s first Queens location.
Founded in 2015 by Christian Felipe Guzman Herrera, Pueblo Querido Coffee Roasters emphasizes the Columbian coffee tradition and culture. The coffee roaster boasts fair-trade organic coffee and Colombian delicacies, including choclo (flat corn cakes), pandebono (yuca-based sweet buns with cheese) and freshly baked empanadas. Hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Guzman Herrera said the company is thrilled to be at Sven and contribute to the vibrancy of Queens Plaza.
“We saw a unique opportunity to bring our rich Colombian coffee tradition to Queens. We get to serve our exceptional coffee, get to know the residents and be a part of the community,” he said.
Jody Durst, president of the Durst Organization, added that Queens Plaza has become a popular residential destination in Long Island City, enticing residents with easy access to public transportation and a variety of retailers.
Pueblo Querido Coffee Roasters is one of many shops located at the base of Sven, including Finback Brewery and ACA Acupuncture and Wellness. Sven, the second tallest tower in Queens, opened in early 2022. It is located near eight subway lines and features 958 apartments.
