Woman’s unattended backpack swiped from chair at LaGuardia Community College Library, cops say

The police are looking for a man who allegedly stole a woman’s unattended backpack from the back of her chair at LaGuardia Community College’s library last month.

The incident allegedly took place at around 12 pm on Thursday, December 15, inside the 31-10 Thomson Avenue-based library, police said.

The suspect grabbed the 20-year-old victim’s backpack and fled the location in an unknown direction, according to police. The victim’s backpack included items such as an Apple MacBook, charger, headphones and case.

The suspect is described as a male black, 20 to 30 years old; last seen wearing a black jacket, a multi-colored scarf, white shirt and dark colored pants.

Three homeless men were arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Tuesday and variously charged with felony robbery, attempted gang assault, and assault for allegedly stealing the belongings of a 69-year-old homeless man who was asleep on a Manhattan-bound 7 train in Woodside early Sunday morning.

The victim woke up and tried to regain his property. During the ensuing brawl, the victim fatally stabbed a 37-year-old assailant and slashed a second man. The victim has not been charged in the fatal stabbing. The investigation by the NYPD’s Queens Homicide Squad and members of the 108th Precinct in Long Island City remains ongoing.
