A woman was shot dead outside a house in East Elmhurst Saturday, according to police.

Police responded to a call at around 3:35 p.m. that a woman had been shot in front of 32-17 97th Street. Upon arrival, officers from the 115th Precinct discovered the woman, 37, with gunshot wounds to her abdomen.

She was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals / Elmhurst, where she was pronounced deceased. Police have not yet released the name of the victim and there have been no arrests.

The killing was one of several shootings to have taken place in Queens during the first two days of 2021.

There was a triple shooting outside the Umbrella Hotel in Kew Gardens on Jan. 1 that left a 20-year-old man dead and two others injured.

There was also a drive-by shooting at Queens Plaza South in Long Island City on Jan. 1, which left two men wounded.

Additionally, a man was shot in the shoulder during a home invasion on 212th Street in Queens Village just before 6 a.m. on Jan. 2.

City jail system is a revolving door for these criminals. It’s like a vacation home for them.

Anyone noticing more crime? Anyone noticing there are more and more crime related articles being posted? We going to do anything about this or should we just let people get injured and die? Look to your local politicians for solutions. You are being played and they’re not being held accountable. Plenty of things they can do to bring us together and/or fight crime.

I see DeBlasio is making a great start on record setting levels of crime for 2021. The city is spiraling into calamity while he dances with Chirlane, the 850 Million Dollar Woman. No wonder they were dancing so happily! Where’s that money, Chir?

Meanwhile, let’s root for Mayor Duncecap to hit a new crime high in 2021! You can do it Billy!

Op-ed: An urgent call for revising NY’s criminal justice reforms to protect public safety

Apr. 11, 2024 By Council Member Robert Holden

In 2019, the State Legislature and Governor Andrew Cuomo embarked on a controversial overhaul of New York’s criminal justice system by enacting several laws, including cashless bail and sweeping changes to discovery laws. Simultaneously, the New York City Council passed laws that compounded these challenges, notably the elimination of punitive segregation in city jails and qualified immunity for police officers. These actions have collectively undermined public safety and constrained law enforcement effectiveness.
