Three Local Venues Offer Presidential Debate Parties

Sept. 23, 2016 By Hannah Wulkan

Whether looking for a serious political discussion or some lighthearted mockery to pair with the first presidential debate on Monday night, several local establishments have you covered with watch parties.

The events will showcase the candidates going head to head on TV for the first time but with comedians, politicians, and fellow residents at a given venue. They all tend to cater to Hillary Clinton supporters.

1) For a comedic approach to the debate, QED at 27-16 23rd Avenue in Astoria is hosting several comedians and commentators to hold a “Mystery Science Theater 3000” style event, with guests commenting on the debate while it airs.

The guests, including Frank Conniff from Mystery Science Theater 3000, Christian Finnegan from A&E’s “Black And White” and “The Fun Part” on Netflix, and Myka Fox from Someecards will also do some pre-show political comedy.

The event runs from 9 to 10:30 p.m. and tickets are on sale for $10 on QED’s website here: http://qedastoria.com/products/presidential-debate-watch-party.

2) For a political discussion with an actual politician, join Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer (D) at Creek and Cave, a Mexican restaurant at 10-93 Jackson Avenue in Long Island City.

The party will get started around 8 p.m. on Monday, though the debate itself does not actually begin until 9 p.m., so there will be plenty of time for pre-debate discussion.

3) For a purely partisan view on the debate, join Hillary Clinton supporters at Raven’s Head Public House, which will be serving up themed drinks all night in the spirit of political discourse.

The event will get started around 8 p.m., and will be hosted by the Powhatan Democratic Club. The bar will be serving specialty drinks including the “Donald Drumpf” and the “Secret Server,” in addition to other drink specials.

I feel sorry for the Southern Christian Conservative who finds him/herself cornered in this “lovefest” lol.

Unless you like abuse take the LIRR eastbound and get off once you enter Nassau County, then look for any bar with the debate on. If you go local then get your boxing gloves on and get ready for a pounding (figuratively).
