The Shannon Pot, a longstanding Irish dive bar in Long Island City, will be closing down for a second time, but with plans already in the horizon to remain in the neighborhood.

The bar and restaurant, currently located at 21-59 44th Dr., will close on Friday as developers plan on bulldozing the one-story building to make way for a seven-story residential and commercial project.

The business, in the neighborhood since 1999, was already forced to relocate to its current 44th Drive site in 2014 from its prior spot at the corner of Jackson Avenue and Davis Street, which was also demolished as part of the two-story project under construction at the former 5Pointz site.

But a spokesperson for The Shannon Pot told the LIC Post that the developer, Kyriacos Stavrinou, has promised them a place at their upcoming development.

The spokesperson said The Shannon Pot will be back in business when the new building is completed. The bar currently has no plans to reopen elsewhere in the meantime, but could potentially do so if a short-term lease were obtained.

The developer did not immediately respond to questions on the timeline of the development.

The upcoming development features 9,000 square feet of commercial space, with ground retail in store and a medical facility on the second floor. The site also includes 20 apartments spanning a total of 17,780 square feet.

The project has been in store since 2016, with developers filing plans to demolish the site in February.

D.

Folks there spotted my husband taking a nose dive in the slush and icy roadway median outside their corner a few winters ago, and stayed with him until the ambulance took him and his bloody nose to the hospital. We used to go to the first location–artists and working people mostly. Looking forward to visiting again.

The Shannon Pot is adorable. I’m glad they have a place in the new building. That whole part of 44th Drive is dramatically changing.

Really MRLIC, come on now! It’s obviously a good sign that a continuing business is returning after like almost 20 years of establishing themselves! SMH 🙄🙄🙄😳😳😳

That’s what the developers say now. I’m sure their story will change once the building is done. Hopefully they got something in writing.

Really MRLIC wow I mean doesn’t almost 20 years of being in the community count for something? I’d rather have them than some shi shi trendy $$$$$$ god forsaken place that charges $9 to $10 a beer!🙄🙄🙄

The whole point of the bar was its location in that old space. Moving it to some swanky sterile tower is the kiss of death.

Must be the luck of the Irish. They just won’t close down and call it a day.

All of this construction on every other block is GREAT. The noise and dust are WONDERFUL. (Sarcasm)

Just remember right across the street (Under 7 el) there will be a 80 story building. (more dust). The BUILDING never ends. The transit crowding gets worse and worse.

The population keeps growing and millions of people do not even bother to vote. (Yes, there will be dust. It could be worse.)
