Brooklyn-based electric mobility startup Revel on Jan. 9 announced that it would be developing and opening new high-volume electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Maspeth as a part of their citywide expansion.

According to Revel, 60 new charging station hubs will be installed in Maspeth at the corner of 54th Road and 46th Street.

“Making fast, reliable electric vehicle charging accessible across New York City’s five boroughs is at the foundation of reducing emissions in our city,” said Deputy Mayor for Operations Meera Joshi. “We applaud Revel’s infrastructure investment in New York City, which will make it easier for drivers to go electric.”

Like Revel’s flagship “superhub” in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, Maspeth’s new sites will be open 24/7 and accessible to any brand of EV. The sites will be equipped with ultrafast charging capable of charging an EV in 10 to 20 minutes.

The Maspeth superhub is one of five new stations to be installed as part of a larger expansion of Revel’s fast charging stations. According to Plugshare, there are only 20 public fast-charging stalls in Queens, all located at low-volume sites with at least three stalls on average.

The company will be adding 136 new fast-charging stalls, including the Maspeth hub, that will bring Revel’s citywide network to over 160 stalls. The company will operate roughly 80 percent of New York City’s public fast-charging infrastructure.

The company also revealed that its ride-share fleet would participate in managed charging at the new sites, charging during off-peak hours for the grid. The five sites will also participate in demand response, incentivizing EV users to charge their vehicles ahead of Con Edison’s power curtailment events during peak summer hours.
