A national restaurant chain that specializes in healthy salads has opened a location in Long Island City.
Sweetgreen, which offers customizable salads and warm bowls, opened today on the corner of 44th Drive and Jackson Avenue. The company has taken a 3,200 square space on the ground floor of the Hayden residential building—a 51-story complex in Court Square.
The California-based chain has approximately 150 locations throughout the U.S.
The new restaurant, located at 25-35 44th Dr., marks the company’s first in Queens. The chain has more than 30 locations in Manhattan and four in Brooklyn.
The eatery seats approximately 30 people indoors, according to a spokesperson for the company. There is also a small outdoor dining area on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant.
Sweetgreen’s salads typically consist of fresh greens and fruit, a choice of meats, dressing, and rice or sweet potatoes.

The company’s kale caesar salad is a popular item, which comes with roasted chicken, tomatoes, shaved parmesan, shredded kale, chopped romaine, lime squeeze and caesar dressing.
Sweetgreen’s hot honey chicken plate is also a favorite, which is made with quinoa, toasted almonds, blackened chicken, hot roasted sweet potatoes, kale cabbage slaw and hot honey sauce.
The company rotates parts of its menu on a seasonal basis. For instance, the chicken chimichurri bowl, mushroom chimichurri bowl and chimichurri protein plate will only be available to order through May.
Sweetgreen was founded in 2007 by three Georgetown University graduates — Nicolas Jammet, Nathaniel Ru, and Jonathan Neman — who wanted to make high-quality, healthy food affordable and conveniently available.
Opening hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays through Sundays.

How about the local bodega, they are gone, when no one wanted to live here they held us together, you can’t get a package of drakes coconut cookies, yodels, presidente beer, anywhere around here anymore.
What about a decent Pizza place or a decent Chinese food place .
How about A Stop & Shop. Burger King or Wendy’s either added to Starbucks Sweetgreen etc.. for more choices.
Luzzo’s make a great Neapolitan pizza. But for a decent NYC slice, I walk north up to Goodfellas. Also the pizza spot inside the food court at the Jacx is good too.

It’s 2022, people still want to eat at Burger King?
That’s how you know you’ve made it as a neighborhood. Starbucks, Chipotle, Trader Joe’s and now Sweetgreen. Well done LIC.
Yeah but what is up with Whole Foods? Late to the party.
Whole Foods was never happening after they drove out Amazon, which owns them.
And Target being built right now.
