Protest continues at 5 Pointz

March 9, 2014 By Christian Murray

Two artists have put up yellow tape around the 5 Pointz building that reads “Gentrification in Progress,” according to Twitter.

The artists, who go by the name gilf! and BAMN, displayed their message on the Jackson Avenue side of the building as they protest its demolition.

The building was whitewashed in mid November, following the city council’s decision allowing the development of two apartment units-comprised of a total of about 1,000 apartments– to proceed. The move followed a long fight by artists to save the building.

The tape goes up at a time when the demolition of the building slowly continues with crews removing asbestos from the location.
