Protest continues at 5 Pointz

Two artists have put up yellow tape around the 5 Pointz building that reads “Gentrification in Progress,” according to Twitter.

The artists, who go by the name gilf! and BAMN, displayed their message on the Jackson Avenue side of the building as they protest its demolition.

The building was whitewashed in mid November, following the city council’s decision allowing the development of two apartment units-comprised of a total of about 1,000 apartments– to proceed. The move followed a long fight by artists to save the building.

The tape goes up at a time when the demolition of the building slowly continues with crews removing asbestos from the location.

MTA seizes 19 ‘ghost’ cars registered to toll violators at Queens Midtown Tunnel on Monday

Two days before the MTA Board approved the controversial congestion pricing plan for Manhattan on Wednesday, the agency cracked down on persistent toll violators at the Queens Midtown Tunnel in Long Island City.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels seized 19 vehicles registered to persistent scofflaws on Monday and issued 81 summonses and confiscated two fraudulent incense plates. The MTA noted that the scofflaws accounted for approximately $483,000 in combined unpaid tolls and fees. One of the top persistent toll violators from the targeted enforcement owed nearly $76,000 in tolls and fees.
