Police are searching for a woman believed to be involved in stealing wallets and cellphones from female 7 train riders in the past two months.
The suspect is connected to nine incidents. A man, who was involved in two of the incidents, has been arrested.
The first incident took place on February 7, at about 5 pm, when the suspect grabbed a 20-year-old female’s pocketbook and removed her wallet containing credit cards while travelling on a Flushing-bound 7 train.
About an hour later, the suspect preyed on a 40-year old female who was aboard the Flushing-bound 7 train talking on her cellphone. When the train arrived at the Junction Boulevard Roosevelt Ave station the victim put her cellphone wallet case inside her bag. As the victim exited the train a man bumped into her, and removed her wallet from her bag.
On Tuesday, February 21, at about 4:20 pm, a 39-year old female had her cellphone and wallet case in her bag when she boarded the Flushing-bound 7 train at the 74 Street and Roosevelt Avenue subway station. When she exited the train at the 103 Street subway station she noticed her cellphone and case was missing.
Two days later, at 5:40 pm, a 58-year old woman was on the Flushing-bound platform at the Jackson Avenue subway station awaiting the 7 train. The victim had her headphones connected to her cellphone which was in her bag. As the train exited the station, the victim noticed her headphones wire was hanging outside of her bag and her cellphone was gone.
Then on February 28 at 5:20 pm a 28-year old female was on the Flushing-bound platform at the Queensboro Plaza station listening to music on her cellphone, which was in her pocket. The victim boarded a crowded 7 train and noticed she couldn’t hear music from her cellphone. When she exited the train at 46 Street and Queens Boulevard station she discovered her cellphone was missing.
It was reported to the police that on Wednesday, March 8 at around 5:40pm a 28-year-old female was boarding a local 7 train at 61 Street Woodside Avenue Station, when an unknown male pushed her as they both entered the train car. When the victim exited the train at 74 Street and Broadway Station she discovered her wallet was gone.
Two days later at around 5:20 pm, it was reported to the police that a 39-year old female had her wallet stolen while riding the 7 train between the 61 Street/Woodside subway station and the 82 Street and Roosevelt Avenue subway station.
On March 15, 2017 at 1:10 pm a 24-year-old woman had her wallet stolen on the 7 train between the 61 Street/Woodside subway station and the Broadway/Roosevelt Ave. stop.
The last incident reported took place on March 16 at around 5:25 pm when officers observed the male suspect on the platform of the Queens Plaza South subway station and reached inside the victim’s coat pocket and remove her cellphone. The police arrested William Obregon, a Woodside resident, on the scene.
The police are still looking for the female suspect who is described as Hispanic approximately 30-35 years of age.
