NYPD: Body Found Floating in East River Thursday Morning

An unidentified man’s body was found floating in the East River by Roosevelt Island this morning.

Police responded to a 911 call at around 6:28 a.m. about a person in the water near NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler by 900 Main St. in Roosevelt Island, according to police.

The NYPD Harbor Unit arrived and found that the man was unconscious. They removed him from the river and brought him to a pier located at Roosevelt Island, police said.

Emergency Medical Services pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.

The Medical Examiner will ultimately determine the cause of death.

The man’s identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.

The founder of the Queens Defenders and her husband have lawyered up after they were indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the non-profit organization.

Former Queens Defenders executive director Lori Zeno, 64, surrendered Wednesday at the Brooklyn federal courthouse. Zeno was arraigned on an indictment charging her and Rashad Ruhani, 55, with wire fraud conspiracy, theft, money laundering conspiracy and other crimes.
