New York City On Track to Reopen June 8: Cuomo

May 29, 2020 By Allie Griffin

New York City is on track to reopen in about two weeks, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today.

The city will begin reopening June 8, Cuomo said at his daily coronavirus briefing, where he was joined by the mayor via a live video feed.

“We are on track to open on June 8, which is one week from Monday,” Cuomo said.

New York City will enter into phase one of reopening, which includes opening construction, agriculture, hunting, manufacturing and wholesale trade industries.

Retail stores are also allowed to reopen for curbside or in-store pickup only under phase one. The stores are not open for browsing.

“Remember that reopening does not mean we’re going back to the way things were… It’s going to be different,” Cuomo said. “It’s reopening to a new normal. It’s a safer normal.”

The governor said New Yorkers should continue to wear masks and keep six feet from one another even as the city moves into reopening.

Phase one will bring about 400,000 employees back to work in New York City, Cuomo said.

“We are excited to get to the point of a restart for New York City,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

Five regions in the state will also begin moving into phase two of reopening, the governor announced today.

Phase two industry reopenings include office-based jobs, real estate services and retail, including hair salons and barbershops — which will be opened with limited services. Office buildings will also have reduced capacities in phase two.

The decision to open, despite any effective progress on the 3T’s (Testing, Treatment, and Tracing) is logically going to rekindle the outbreak. I realize business is hurting, but this flies against public health concerns. What we have is a willingness to let people die at an ‘acceptable rate’. What is that rate? When will the death toll number – the Wave 2 tipping point?

I wish we could hold off a couple more months and give ourselves a fighting chance. Why has the Gov’t been so earth shatteringly slow? Because our health care system has been broken for years. We need to build up our testing. Where is the drive-through (Walk-up) outdoor testing – Neighborhood by neighborhood? They aren’t ready.

Maybe the powers that are lying to us about safety are quietly going for herd immunity?

There are so many layers to this onion. People need honest, empowering leadership – not myth.

The virus gonna flare up again. Then we will be right back where we were before, and progress will be stymied.

Oh sure, “re-open.” Barely. Small businesses are closing up shop at increasing rates, while Bozo Cuomo pushes his utterly arbitrary, meaningless “goals” about a fake pandemic that’s been over for more than a month.

But hey, at least “hunting” will be allowed! Maybe he means polar bear hunting. That’s always been allowed.

You're completely wrong again

100k dead Americans, and you disrespect them by calling it “a fake pandemic?” How disgusting.

> that’s been over

Wait…the pandemic was fake, AND it was happening at some point? Logic is hard.

I’m glad you never worse a mask, right?
