The Museum of the Moving Image has announced a holiday season lineup for families to enjoy in November and December, including screenings, animation workshops and Sesame Street cast members.
On Dec. 13 at 1 p.m., “The Humans of Sesame Street” will bring the cast members of the popular show to a live audience for an afternoon of memories, music and video clips. The cast members will meet fans after the presentation and Sonia Manzano, who plays Maria on the show, will autograph copies of her autobiography, which is available in the museum gift shop.
Tickets cost $15 for the public and $9 for museum members.
The museum will also screen “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas,” which is Henson’s television special that tells the story of Ma Otter and her son Emmet, who both secretly enter a talent contest to win money for each other’s Christmas presents. The screening takes place on Nov. 22 at 1 p.m.
The museum has a Jim Henson Exhibition and Gallery coming soon. It will feature more than 50 puppets, costumes, character sketches, scripts and behind-the-scenes footage.
During the weekend of Thanksgiving, the museum will offer a “Purrfect Puppet Animation Workshop,” where families will create stop-motion videos and bring feline puppets to life under the camera. The workshop is available on Nov. 27 and 28 at 12:45 p.m. and 2 p.m. and Nov. 29 at 12:45 p.m. It costs $5 and families can register in advance online.
The museum will also offer daily matinees of the “Shaun the Sheep Movie” at 12:30 p.m. accompanied by claymation workshops at 2:30 p.m., during winter recess, from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1.
In addition to regular hours, the Museum will be open on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 28 and 29, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 1, from 10:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The museum is usually closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The museum will be closed on Thanksgiving (Nov. 26) and Christmas (Dec. 25).
