A local realtor who has helped many people find homes in Long Island City says that he and his team have recently experienced a surge in sales transactions in the bustling western Queens market.

Ivan Palov, of the self-named Ivan Palov Team at Spire Group, says he has overseen more than 1,100 transactions in his decade-long real estate career, from helping students rent their first apartment in New York to matching families with luxury 3- bedroom penthouses. Now, Palov says, he and his team are busier with sales more than ever.

“More and more people want to move and stay in Long Island City, not for a short term period but to start a family and be a part of the community,” Palov stated.

Palov moved to New York from Bulgaria at the age of 19 in 2006, and fell in love with Long Island City after settling into a residence near Queensboro Plaza in 2010.

“A friend introduced me to real estate 10 years ago, and when I moved to Long Island City, I immediately saw its potential,” Palov shared.

When he first started as an agent, Palov said there wasn’t much competition in the sales or rental market in Long Island City, stating that there were many opportunities for growth and development for a team that he would eventually put together.

The Ivan Palov Team at Spire Group currently consists of two other members, Pavla Petrova and Vlad Vladimirov, each of whom have been on the team for the past two years.

With more than 60 positive reviews in the real estate site Naked Apartments, over 50 reviews on Yelp, and many positive remarks from former clients on Zillow, Ivan says his reputation with helping clients get the best price for a unit speaks for itself. He said he is a certified negotiator and is known for his “blatant honesty” when managing transactions.

Ivan, who is a graduate of Adelphi University, has a degree in International Relations and Business, along with an MBA from MCNY. He has also recently completed a diploma program in Residential Property Management at NYU to further expand his skills and expertise in the real estate market.

Queens Public Library hosts conversation with Astoria author on borough history

Borough history geeks will want to mark Tuesday, April 4, on their calendars for the Queens Public Library’s Queens Memory Project online talk with Astoria author Rebecca Bratspies. The processor at CUNY Law in Long Island City will discuss her new book, “Naming Gotham: The Villains, Rogues and Heroes Behind New York’s Place Names,” and take a deep dive into the lives of the people for whom many Queens places are named, some of which have become synonymous with congestion, recreation or culture.

“Queens is the most diverse place on the planet. That diversity is our greatest strength. Our patchwork of unique neighborhoods has welcomed successive waves of immigrants, each adding incredible foods and traditions to our vibrant civic life,” Bratspies said. “Yet it is striking how few of the names that grace Queens’ major infrastructure actually reflect that diversity. By tracing the lives of the people whose names have become New York’s urban shorthand for congestion, recreation, and infrastructure, Naming Gotham offers readers an accessible way to understand the complexity of multiracial, multicultural New York City.”
