LIC Kids Cuts Grows Out of Jackson Ave. Space, Moves into New Location on 47th Ave

March 17, 2017 By Staff Report

After two years at its Jackson Ave location, LIC Kids Cuts has grown up and moved into a larger space at 10-54 47th Ave, just two doors down from the Hunters Point Ladder 113 firehouse at the former location of Christie Real Estate.

The firm’s grand opening celebration takes place today and will go on into the weekend.

The new location provides the child-friendly facility with about 1,000 square feet to operate in, which is more than three times the space of the firm’s former Jackson Ave salon.

“We believe that with the bigger space we will be able to serve and accommodate the growing number of families coming to western Queens,” said co-owner Vera Santanna.

Santanna, who was a kindergarten teacher in Brazil, moved to the United States more than 30 years ago and to Long Island City with her husband, Larry, seven years ago. In that time, Santanna has picked up over 15 years of experience cutting and styling hair for children, she said.

In addition to providing styling / cuts for children, the 10-54 47th Ave salon offers styling and cuts for teenagers and adults.

The space is split into two sections, with the second section designed for parents and teens. This section is called the Slick Barber Shop and is under the same ownership.

Families, Santanna said, will be able to get their hair cut and styled at the one location.

“We want to make life a little easier for parents, and involve their children in a safe but social environment,” Santanna said.

Both sides of the salon will have televisions installed and will play separate programming. The section for teenagers and adults will have clear sliding doors which can be utilized in case parents or their teens wish to engage in private conversations with their stylist, while still keeping an eye on their younger ones.

“We want mom and dad to bring their kids, and make a trip to the barber shop a family experience,” Santanna said.

Walk-ins are welcome, Santanna said, adding that she plans to introduce discounted pricing for middle school and high school students in the area. She also plans to sell makeover party packages for kids and their friends.

Hours of operation are as follows.

Monday to Friday: 10 am – 7 pm
Saturday: 9 am – 6 pm
Sunday: 10 am – 4 pm
