A new restaurant specializing in hand-pulled noodles from northwestern China is coming to Long Island City.
Dun Huang, which offers a wide range of noodle bowls and Chinese-style meat dishes, is scheduled to open within two months at 27-35 Jackson Ave., according to a store worker.
The company is moving into a ground floor space at the five-story office building which has recently undergone renovation work. A number of adjoining ground floor spaces that previously featured brick façades have been transformed into expansive commercial units with high windows.
The new restaurant will be the chain’s second in Queens. The company opened its first Queens restaurant on 37th Avenue in Flushing in 2015.
Dun Huang operates eight restaurants in total across the U.S. with two in Manhattan and two in Brooklyn. Its other locations are in California and New Jersey.
The chain focuses heavily on noodle dishes – with all of the noodles being hand-pulled. The restaurant also offers a variety of spicy meat plates, bbq dishes and Chinese teas.
Some of its most popular dishes include the traditional Lanzhou beef noodles, pan-fried noodles and Mongolian lamb. It also offers fried fish balls with shredded egg, sweet and sour pork with pineapple, and spicy popcorn chicken.
The company is also known for its in-store food challenge where customers are tasked with consuming an extra-large bowl of noodles within 30 minutes. Those who complete the task win $30 off their next visit to the restaurant.
The opening of Dun Huang will add to the growing list of Asian-themed restaurants in Long Island City.
Meanwhile, the trendy Chinese restaurant Xi’an Famous Foods reopened at 26-19 Jackson Ave. in April after being shuttered for nearly 15 months following a fire that forced it to close.
