Stars from some of Broadway’s current top musicals will take to the stage in a free special event in Astoria Friday.

The family-friendly event, called Broadway in the Boros, will feature current cast members and musicians from hit shows such as Wicked, SIX, and Beetlejuice performing live, rain or shine.

The performances will take place on the backlot at Kaufman Astoria from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The backlot – located on 36th Street between 34th Avenue and 36th Avenue – is an outdoor venue that is used by the film industry to shoot outdoor scenes.

The event is part of an initiative by the mayor to bring free Broadway performances to the outer boroughs, as well as showcasing some of Broadway’s latest talent. It will feature wheelchair and American sign language accommodations, organizers say.

This year’s series marks the fifth time the event is taking place, with it being canceled in 2020 and in 2021 due to the pandemic.

Mayor Eric Adams said he was thrilled to see Broadway in the Boros return.

“This remarkable series works to ensure that everyone in our city, regardless of their zip code, gets the chance to experience the magic of Broadway right in their backyards,” Adams said in a statement.

“Broadway is a lifeblood of our city, and this series is an incredible way for all New Yorkers to come out and relish in the magic that makes New York City’s heartbeat.”
