Body found in East River off Hunters Point South Park, police say

A body was discovered in the East River by Hunters Point South Park this evening, according to police

The police received a report at 6:18pm that an unconscious, unresponsive man had been found in the water off the park.

A NYPD harbor unit responded to the location and transported the man’s body to a nearby location. Witnesses said the man was taken to Pier 4 at Gantry Plaza State Park.

EMS determined him dead on the scene.

No details have been released as to the name or age of the victim.

The cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing. There have been no arrests.

Unfortunately it is usually the current that brings the bodies. Sadly the bridges along the river are used as suicide jumping points.

Hopefully, never again. The piers are part of the State park section. Perhaps a high tide and currents brought the body nto the pier. Perhaps, a preventable suicide or foul play at the park no park goer noticed. Tides could have brought in the body, but …. More patrols?
