MoMA PS1 is kicking off its annual summer music series “Warm Up” on Friday, July 12.
The six-week-long event will feature DJ sets and live performances from 4-10 p.m. on Friday evenings in July and August.
Located at 22-25 Jackson Ave. in Long Island City, the music program features a mashup of electronic music and experimental sounds. This year’s artist lineup includes Terrence Dixon, a Detriot techno music producer, Ash Lauryn, the Atlanta-based founder of Underground and Black, and SoFTT, a group of up-and-coming Miami-based trance musicians.
Other featured performers include Kode9, founder of the Hyperdub label, and UNIIQU3, a Jersey club DJ. Tickets are now available for all dates, as well as a season pass offering admission to all performances for $75.
Now in its 26th season, Warm Up 2024 takes place in the MoMA PS1 courtyard with a newly commissioned stage designed by artist Stewart Uoo.
Founded by curator Alanna Heiss, MoMA P.S.1- formerly known as P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center – is well known for its role in the alternative space movement in the 1970s.
In 1976, P.S.1 opened, featuring a Rooms exhibition, which hosted over 70 artists that transformed the building with site-specific installations. In addition to site-specific works, for 30 years P.S.1 ran a studio program that offered workspaces to artists worldwide.
Although the program ended in 2004, artists continue to use the space for studios, meetings and rehearsals. MoMA PS1 has long-standing partnerships with organizations such as The Fortune Society and The Studio Museum in Harlem, with plans to pool resources to support a wider range of artists.
