PS 78 to Reopen Thursday

CitiLights

Nov. 7, 2012 By Christian Murray

While public schools across New York City reopened on Monday, PS 78 has remained closed since the hurricane Sandy ravaged the area

The ground floor of P.S. 78, which is located in the CityLights Building in Hunters Point, was flooded during the storm.

The school was supposed to open on Wednesday, November 7. However, the Department of Education said it was not ready, since the city had to conduct environment testing.

“Although our goal has been to have students return to our building…, we must make sure our school is deemed safe before this can happen,” P.S.78 principal, Louis Pavone, wrote in a note to parents earlier this week.

The school has been cleared to reopen Thursday, according to the school office. On the school website it reads: “We look forward to seeing all tomorrow.”
