Local Home and Hardware Store to Open Second LIC Location

Kitchen Plus More is opening a second LIC location on Hunter Street

Jan. 2, 2020 By Allie Griffin

A local home and hardware shop owner is opening a second Long Island City store in Court Square this month.

Kitchen Plus More will open at 43-37 Hunter St. in Rockrose’s Hayden building by Monday, Jan. 13 — if not earlier, owner Ovidiu Teja said.

Teja opened his first store of the same name at 47-17 5th St. in December 2014, after hearing residents say there was a need for a hardware and kitchen store in the neighborhood.

The store will be 3,000 square feet, the same size as the 5th Street location, and offer a similar product selection — everything from nuts and bolts, paint, tools, bake-ware, wall art, bedding sets to dinnerware and more.

Like the original store, Kitchen Plus More on Hunter Street will be open everyday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“We’ve been thinking about opening Court Square for like two years,” Teja said, noting that the building’s developer Rockrose has been very helpful and supportive of small businesses.

He said while the store’s 5th Street location gets some customers from Court Square, it’s a far walk and the busy area seemed like an ideal spot to expand.

Teja said he has dedicated customers at his original store and hopes the new shop will find the same in the Court Square community.

“I think our customers love us, so I’m hoping for the same at Court Square as well,” he said.

I’m glad to see positive comments so far because this store is great. They’ve figured out how to run a successful retail shop in the neighborhood that’s well stocked, clean, friendly and reasonably priced. See? It IS possible to launch independent retail stores in NYC after all.

Nice, Kitchen plus More has everything hardware and home related, and is pretty fairly priced. They are an essential part of the neighborhood! Without them, I’d have to waste time going into the city or Greenpoint since there are no other hardware stores in that part of LIC

Thank you for the store…i get much better service from local stores than the big conglomerates. Wish you all the best in LIC.
