A man was placed under arrest earlier today after striking a two-year-old boy with his car in a Wednesday morning hit and run that left the toddler with multiple injuries, police said.

The driver, 20-year-old Ramanpreet Singh, struck Mason Castillo with his yellow 2010 Ford Escape while the young boy was crossing the intersection at 28th Street and Queens Plaza South with his grandmother just after 10:40 a.m. Sing then fled the scene, police said.

The child suffered trauma to his legs and head and was taken by EMS to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center.

According to ABC7, Sing was driving a taxi cab when he hit the pair. The toddler was reportedly found to have a fractured skull, a broken hip and a broken leg, and has undergone two surgeries to treat the injuries.

Sing was arrested earlier today at his home in Jamaica, Queens. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to yield and failure to use due care.

Nice that you want to help but since it was a licensed NYC taxi cab it would be required to have plenty of insurance to be on the road.
Sorry for the little boy but I think he is covered by the taxi insurance as well as his own insurance, hopefully the parent wasn’t one of those people who doesn’t believe in buying the insurance that everyone is required to carry. Even though gofundme.com would like to collect their 8% commission, not every bad event needs to have people asking for handouts from strangers.

Taxi driver should be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

There are usually uncovered expenses from your own insurance (which you are often required to pay on short notice). We also don’t even know if they were insured. The claim on the taxi insurance should cover it all but that takes a long time to get. Also, this family likely is going to incur expenses from missed work and simply not having the time to take care of normal things like cooking dinner. Sending them some money to help them out is not them asking for a handout, it’s just a community supporting one of it’s members in a time of need.

Thank you for your intelligent, level-headed remark. This Comments section gets way too many wackos with racist views and I’m relieved to see a humane response to this tragedy.

FYI the cab driver only gets a charge, known as a FELONY. BUT NO JAIL TIME. IS THAT WHAT YOU CONSIDER CHARGED TO THE MAX? DIDN’T THINK SO.

I feel sorry for the child. But….. No.

Plenty of people have stolen the GoFundMe money.
