Police are searching for a man who allegedly stole a woman’s cell phone while riding the M train near the Court Square-23rd Street station on New Year’s Eve.

The 26-year-old woman was on the northbound M train at about 6:10 am on Dec. 31 when the suspect approached her and grabbed her iPhone 5c.  The suspect allegedly fled the train at the Court Square-23rd Street, station according to the NYPD.

There were no injuries.

Police described the suspect as a male, black, approximately 30-years-old, 5’10 tall, with brown eyes, straight black hair and dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a gray and blue hooded jacket with the letters “LA” on the back.

The NYPD has released two surveillance photos of the suspect taken from the Court Square subway station.

Police are asking anyone with any information to call 1-800-577-TIPS.

Twenty individuals were indicted and variously charged in a wide-ranging scheme to steal cars in Queens, throughout New York City and its suburbs, following a three-year investigation by the Queens District Attorney’s Office, the NYPD, and the New York State Police dubbed “Operation Hellcat,” into the criminal enterprise based in Queens.

Some of the vehicles were stolen from owners’ driveways, some with the keys or key fobs inside. The stolen vehicles were often sold through advertisements on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The defendants are charged in nine separate indictments for a total of 373 counts, Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced on Thursday.
