The PS/IS 78 community celebrated the opening of its new playground on Friday.
The $350,000 playground is located in front of the PS/IS 78 Early Childhood Center, off of Center Boulevard between 48th and 49th Avenues. It will serve pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and first grade students at PS 78.
Friday’s opening marked the culmination of a years-long effort to bring a dedicated play area to PS/IS 78, according to the office of Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer. Previously, teachers and students would cross the street to use public park space.
The colorful playground offers a variety of climbing and sitting play equipment.
Van Bramer, who helped allocate the $350,000 for this project, joined Assemblywoman Cathy Nolan, PS/IS 78 Principal Louis Pavone, School Construction Authority President Lorraine Grillo and members of the school community to cut the ribbon on the playground.
