LIC chocolate company opens, combining sweet words with taste

Feb. 15, 2013 By Bill Parry

A boutique chocolate company opened in Long Island City last month, which makes 14 different types of chocolates that can be personalized with words, slogans and messages on 4-by-4 inch slabs

Swallow My Words opened  in January, which manufactures and wholesales chocolate products out of a lab on 11-11 44th Road.   Min Kim, the owner of the business, said she plans to produce chocolates that can be used by corporations that include logos. Presently, her focus is on manufacturing chocolates with slogans and messages.

“Once we get the software in place we’ll be able to offer chocolate with artwork,” Kim said.

Kim views her chocolates as perfect for product launches, promotions, advertising and corporate gifts. Kim said her idea could go beyond the boardroom to become an integral tool for wedding planners and all types of parties.

Swallow My Words also produces 10 kinds of caramel, as well as truffles and marshmallows.

The company is currently supplying stores, restaurants and hotels. “Right now the bulk of our orders are online,” Kim said. However, “we do take orders by phone for local pickups at our LIC location.”

Kim says she picked Long Island City as a location for her factory because of its proximity to Manhattan and Brooklyn. The building is “the perfect size for my chocolate lab with space for five staffers with room for growth.”

Kim said that she may include a retail shop in the near future.

Hi Pat, thank you!
If you are ever in the area, please feel free to come by and say hi. Although its not a retail shop, our lab/office door is always open (with lots of tasty goodies) 🙂
Hope to see you soon!
