A large outdoor flea market will be opening at Astoria’s Kaufman Studios this May.
LIC Flea & Food market is teaming up with Kaufman Astoria Studios to open a market on Kaufman’s 34,800 square foot outdoor film lot—which is located on 36th Street (between 34th and 35th Avenues).
The market—to be called Astoria Flea & Food–will open Sunday, May 4, and will run for eight consecutive Sundays. There will be food vendors, antiques, arts & crafts, collectables and more.
The new Astoria market represents the success and expansion of the LIC Flea, which opened in Hunters Point last year by 5th Street and 46th Avenue. That market reopens April 5.
“After a phenomenal first season in Long Island City we are thrilled to expand to Astoria,” said Joshua Schneps, Astoria Flea & Food president, in a statement. He said that “Kaufman Astoria Studios offers the perfect location.”
Kaufman’s outdoor back lot — formerly a city block —is used by production companies to shoot outdoor scenes in a studio setting without having to use New York streets.

I’d much rather see a farmers market that can be accessed by the greater astorian population and not just those who live on the west side (Socrates Sculpture Garden).
Kaufman is centrally located and easily assessable from the R, N & Q trains. Why waste such valuable space on used clothing, crafts and unique food. Aren’t these already prevalent in Astoria?
Lets try to get a year round farmers market like the one availible in Inwood. http://www.grownyc.org/greenmarket/manhattan/inwood
With EBT and Food Access programs a true farmers market would have a huge impact on the quality of life of ALL Astorians.
