50 restaurants to take over the waterfront– for Taste of LIC

More than a 1,000 visitors are expected to fill Gantry Plaza State Park next Tuesday looking to feast on the cuisine provided by as many as 50 local restaurants.

The 8th Annual LIC Food festival is kicking off at 6:30 pm Tuesday and all the major local restaurants—from the trendy to the upscale– are participating. Popular restaurants include Alobar, M. Wells Dinette to the traditional Italian establishment Testaccio Ristorante. For a full list, click here.

The festival benefits The Chocolate Factory, a non-profit LIC theater company.

The event has grown significantly since its infancy. In its first year, there were 12 food vendors and 200 attendees.

On Tuesday, there will be raffles and several items will be auctioned off. Rapper Champagne Jerry will perform and there will be performance art by Neal Medlyn.

Tickets at the door for the two-hour taste cost $60. The event kicks off on June 4, at 6:30 p.m

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards announced on Monday a long list of recommendations to approve the city’s One LIC Neighborhood Plan with conditions.

The sweeping proposal entered the city’s Uniform Land Use Review Procedure (ULURP) in April, following certification by the City Planning Commission, and aims to transform a large portion of Long Island City with new zoning rules that would create nearly 14,700 housing units—including 4,300 affordable homes—alongside 14,400 jobs, over 3.5 million square feet of commercial and industrial space and expanded access to the East River waterfront.
