Publicis, the multinational media and advertising company, is expected to be moving 430 employees into the historic Brewster Building (27-01 Queens Blvd North) by the beginning of February.
The company reportedly signed a 100,000-square-foot lease last year with Met Life and is relocating many of its staff from its Manhattan offices to the new location.
“It’s symbolic that a major company like this sees the value in Long Island City,” said Dana Frankel, the district services manager for the Long Island City Partnership.
MetLife, which has 3,000 employees in the building, leases the entire 700,000-square-foot building. However, it has subleased portions of the space to other tenants, including JetBlue, which moved into the space earlier this year. Jet Blue has 1,200 employees in the building.
The Brewster Building was originally built in 1911 and housed a manufacturer of horse-drawn carriages, Rolls Royce cars, Brewster cars and World War II airplanes.
In 2003, Brause Realty extensively remodeled the building and an adjoining 12-story tower.
