Santa visits LIC and Xmas tree is lit

Dec. 6, 2012 By Christian Murray

The fifth annual Christmas tree lighting took place on the Vernon Mall on Thursday.

About 50 hardy souls braved the cold weather to surround Santa and local representatives as the lights were lit. There were cookies and candy—as well as hot drinks for attendees.

The event, put on by Terri Adams of the Hunters Point Community Development Corp.,  drew residents and officials such as councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, Captain Donald Powers from the 108 precinct and Dan Miner, senior vice president for the LIC Partnership.

Next up: The Menorah lighting at Gantry State Park on Sunday, 3 pm.
