The Diego Salazar Art Gallery, which opened in Long Island City about a year ago, will begin showcasing the works of 14 local artists this week.
The exhibit, titled the Long Island City Winter Show, will run from Dec. 6 through January 26th and will feature paintings, sculptures and abstract art. The artists have all lived or worked in LIC.
Elinore Schnurr, the curator of the event, said that some of the works will have a strong Long Island City flavor. Many painters were inspired by “the industrial [sections of] Long Island City, which is fast disappearing.”
She said there will be many cityscapes.
The gallery is located at 21-25 44th Avenue, in a warehouse space that Diego Salazar, the owner of the gallery, used to occupy to make custom frames for fine art works.
Salazar converted the warehouse to a gallery and a facility that contains 48 work spaces for artists, 40 of which are now occupied by painters and sculptures.
The Winter Show will feature the works of Joel Handorff, who specializes in painting on cloth.
There will be porcelain sculptures by Noriko Kuresumi and abstract art by Oscar Maxera and Ragner Lagerbland.
