The popular LIC Bar (45-58 Vernon Blvd.) reopened on Saturday afternoon after a twenty day hiatus following Hurricane Sandy.

The bar owner had been ready to reopen for some time—but was unable to do so until Con Edison repaired a major transformer.

Con Edison restored power late Thursday evening and the music venue was back in business on Saturday with an afternoon live music performance of Peter and the Wolf and a night time appearance by Fish Hunter.

Gustavo Rodriguez, who books the musical acts for the bar, said, “Twenty days is a long time to be closed down in this business. It would have been a death sentence for most places.”

While the heat was back on Saturday afternoon, the beer taps were not operating. They hope to have the pumps working by Sunday. The sound system was on loan from a Manhattan restaurant.

Rodriguez is planning a fundraising event for Wednesday, Nov. 21 with a musical tribute to Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and The Band to help subsidize the cost of new musical and sound equipment.
