Long Island City residents and business owners are coming together to help those individuals most in need following the hurricane.
LIC Market, located at 21-52 44th Drive, has a been collecting clothing, canned foods, baby supplies, batteries, flashlights, water and daily newspapers donated from community members who heard about the relief drive through social media sites like Facebook.
“Water, clothing, non perishable, blankets and coats have been the most common items,” co-owner and Staten Island native Lisa DiClerico told the Queens Chronicle.
Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer has been picking up goods since Friday and headed to the Rockaways in large numbers to Howard Beach and the Rockaways. The councilman is also gathering supplies at his 47-01 Queens Blvd office in Sunnyside.
