Former LIC exotic dancer charged in 1984 Louisiana murder

Dec. 4, 2012 By Christian Murray

A Long Island City woman has been charged with second-degree murder for allegedly killing a man outside a nightclub in Baton Rouge nearly three decades ago.

Leila Mulla, 47, of 33-78 11th Street, is presently awaiting arraignment and is facing extradition to Louisiana, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.

Mulla, an exotic dancer at the time, has been charged alongside her former boyfriend for allegedly murdering Gary Kergan, 29, on November 28, 1984. She was the last person seen with the victim prior to his death.

Kergan’s vehicle was recovered shortly after the incident with what appeared to be blood in the trunk. When detectives searched an apartment shared by Mulla and her boyfriend –they allegedly found evidence of a violent struggle.

Cold-case detectives, however, recently unearthed new evidence leading to her arrest.  Few details were released.

Two thieves were caught on camera stealing an ATM at an East Elmhurst convenience store just before Christmas.

The NYPD says the two perpetrators belong to a three-man crew that has broken into 49 commercial establishments across Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx in the last four months of 2024. In each incident, two of the crooks haul away ATM machines before speeding away from each crime scene in stolen vehicles driven by a getaway driver.
