A popular program for kids is making a return to in-person activities on the Long Island City waterfront next month.
“Summer Kids,” a free series featuring music, a live magic show and yoga will kick off on July 12 and run through Aug. 20.
The programming, organized by the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy, will also include an arts class, a puppet show, dancing and a workshop using Lego.
There will be eight different activities in total which will take place each weekday – from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.- over six weeks.
The programming, now in its sixth year, was virtual last year due to the pandemic.
This year’s activities will take place in three different locations, according to the HPPC, a volunteer group that organizes events and helps with the upkeep of the parks.
Events on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays will be held at Gantry Plaza State Park.
Activities on Tuesdays will take place at the Landing in Hunters Point South Park, while events on Thursdays will be held at Culture Lab LIC, located at 5-25 46th Ave.
Rob Basch, president of the HPPC, said the conservancy is thrilled to bring the series back in an in-person format.
“It has never been more important to get kids outside to see each other and appreciate the beauty of our waterfront parks,” Basch said.
Basch said that some in-person adult classes like yoga and watercolor painting events have also returned to the parks and the HPPC is working on bringing back its outdoor movies series later this summer.
This year’s “Summer Kids” line-up features program favorites like Joe the Magic Man, WonderSpark Puppets and Jiggy Tots Irish Dance.
Bricks 4 Kidz, City Owlets Magic Show and Tots Sing & Play will also be participating, as well as the music duo Andy & Suzanna.
Snapology, which incorporates Lego bricks into learning, and the art educators Art Strong, are two new additions to this year’s programming.
All events are free and require advance registration due to a limited number of spaces. To register a child click here and select the day and activity on the calendar.
“Summer Kids” is funded by the HPPC, ProHEALTH Dental, Hunter’s Point South Living and NYC Ferry.
