Dec. 1 (Saturday)–a great day to be an LIC dog

Nov. 30, 2012 Staff Report

The LIC Veterinary Center, located at 48-18 Vernon Blvd, will host a grand opening event on Saturday between 2-5 pm.

The animal hospital, which opened for business in October, has invited local pet owners to meet its veterinarians, technicians and support staff. There will be free gift bags for the animals.

The center is also a sponsor of this Saturday’s LIC’s Howl-iday Party, which is taking place one block east at The Breadbox Cafe (47-11 11th St.), from 12 pm to 3 pm.

The Breadbox, as with co-sponsor Camp Bow Wow, often puts on events such as the Howl-iday Party. However, this year there was an additional motive: the traditional Halloween costume party was ruined due to Hurricane Sandy.

The Breadbox will provide drinks and snacks at tomorrow’s event, while Kiki LIC will take photos of the dogs with Santa. Trainers from Camp Bow Wow will teach the dogs a few tricks. For the kids, there will be arts and crafts.

The main event will be a best costume contest with three categories for the pooches: cutest ugly sweater, jolly Santa and Top Hat and “Tails”.

For those new to the area, the Breadbox Cafe is easy to spot thanks to its unique facade.

“It’s covered with over a thousand rolling pins,” said Debra Zadrazil, the manager. “Each rolling pin has a plaque with the names of people or businesses that donated to New York Foundling.”

NY Foundling is a local charity that’s been helping needy children since 1869.

Thieves caught on camera stealing ATM from East Elmhurst store, one of nearly 50 heists by same crew: NYPD

Two thieves were caught on camera stealing an ATM at an East Elmhurst convenience store just before Christmas.

The NYPD says the two perpetrators belong to a three-man crew that has broken into 49 commercial establishments across Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx in the last four months of 2024. In each incident, two of the crooks haul away ATM machines before speeding away from each crime scene in stolen vehicles driven by a getaway driver.
