A mother-and-son duo with deep ties to Long Island City have opened an Argentinian restaurant, called R40, on Vernon Boulevard.

Miriam Dominiguez, who owns the Cuban restaurant Madera, opened the parrilla-centered eatery at 47-16 Vernon Blvd. in collaboration with her son Giovanni Porto, who will be the executive chef.

The new restaurant, which takes on a warm, rustic-styled look, has been in the works for nearly 3 years.

R40, which is named after a roadway that runs the length of Argentina, will feature a menu inspired by Argentinian-style grilled meats.

Its lineup of seasonal offerings includes shareable plates, such as filet mignon empanadas and ricotta gnocchi, along with chicken, steak and fish entrees.

The menu will also feature a custom-designed parrilla for two, created by Porto, and is comprised of skirt steak, short rib, sweetbreads, chorizo, blood sausage and chicken thigh.

R40 will also boast a seasonal backyard space, an underground cellar with more than 70 wine varieties and a cocktail menu created by Westlight beverage consultant, Sami Hamarneh.

The restaurant will begin taking reservations on Feb. 11, and has been in its soft opening phase since Jan. 28.

Great food and service. Tasty empanadas, inventive salads, excellent skirt steaks, amazing arroz negro. A welcome addition to the neighborhood. Hope it lasts like Madera.
