Sleek Building Going Up on Former Shannon Pot Site

Rendering of 21-59 44th Drive: Z Architecture

July 8, 2019 Staff Report

Renderings have been released of a development that is currently going up on 44th Drive.

The development, located at the former Shannon Pot site at 21-59 44th Dr., will be a six story, 20-unit building flush against the elevated train line.

The units will average about 740 square feet in size and there will be about 2,700 square feet of ground-floor retail space and a 400 square foot community facility.

Renderings show a light-colored brick building that will feature private balconies on each floor.

The new development replaces a dated, one-story brick building that was on the 44th Drive/23rd Street corner lot. The site, located by the elevated tracks, had been the short-term home for the Shannon Pot until June 2018.

The Shannon Pot reopened at 10-50 44th Dr. in May.

Another ugly, bug-man apartment building. Oh yay. And the neighborhood loses an admittedly grungy bar but one with tons of New York character. Nothing like it will ever be built again, and losing it is sad.

Bit by bit, LIC is becoming a corporate mall, one tiresome cookie-cutter building after another.

You can also sit on your private balcony and wave to the friendly faces on the train …

When will the development stop ? Answer :Not until all these loser democratic Politicians starting with DeBlasio and Cuomo and the idiot city council get VOTED OUT. Hope these units GO EMPTY like most of the other building in the area.

But..but…but..I thought no Amazon then no development. NOT!!!!…So pack up your bags so the hipsters can move in. Amazon is moving into Manhattan without the subsidies it had to pay in Queens!!! The local jobs -restaurants/cleaners/delis- that Amazon would have brought are already in Manhattan! But the hipsters will live here anyway!!

blaming all your problems on hipsters is outdated

“all my problems are millennials’ fault” is the new boomer battle cry

Dude, the gentrification of this area started long before Amazon and LIC is not exactly a hipster mecca.

That’s wrong – people don’t care about Amazon, but people DO CARE about the politicians who nuked 25k jobs for no reason. They’ll get theirs come election day.

As for this building, it’s perfectly fine, just hilariously bad in terms of location. They must have some spectacular sound-proofing concepts in mind, or FAR MORE LIKELY, the 7-train facing units will be airbandb’d to people who don’t know better

Wish the boomers would all go move to Florida already so housing prices would come down.

When the boomers and the grandmas move out, what happens is that the rent on those units goes UP. Maybe everyone stop with the ageism, and solutions for everyone could be found?

if you want cheap rent, why don’t you move to the south bronx, instead of turning LIC into the south bronx?
