The owner of an award-winning Chinese restaurant will be opening a new establishment on Vernon Boulevard by the end of the month.

The opening will coincide with a number of other new businesses coming to the block, including an ice cream store and a real estate brokerage firm.

Jackey Sun, the owner of the popular Chinese restaurant Hunan House at 137-40 Northern Blvd., will be opening his restaurant at 47-30 Vernon Blvd., which used to be occupied by Tutti Matti.

Sun’s Hunan House was the recipient of the Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand distinction in 2018. The honor is bestowed on quality restaurants that have an affordable menu.

Sun’s new restaurant, to be called Chairman Sun, will primarily offer Sichuan-style food, known for its hot and spicy flavors. The restaurant will seat about 100 diners and will have a bar.

Sun said he decided to open on Vernon Boulevard after visiting the area in search of a condo. He said that he noticed that there was a lack of quality Chinese food in the neighborhood and saw an opportunity. Additionally, he said that there are many Chinese people who live in Long Island City.

The opening will come at a time when an ice-cream shop is scheduled to open at 47-38 Vernon Blvd., where the Standing Room operated until it closed last year. Workers at the site expect it to open later this month.

Additionally, on the same block, the Corcoran Group confirmed that it will be opening an office at 47-34 Vernon Blvd., where S3 Sushi had operated. A representative of the real estate firm provided no further information as to an opening date.

I think Hunan House is called Hunan Cafe now. Great to see potentially authentic Chinese food coming to the neighborhood. Badly needed…

Also, the ice cream place coming is called Four Winters, which is from the UK and has stores in the middle east and Los Angeles. They use liquid nitrogen for the process.

Seriously? another ice cream shop? so now we can get ice cream from something sweet, ice & vice on Jackson, Baskin-robbins and now this new place? L.I.C I don’t get it. The cherry on top is that the Corcoran Group is opening up on Vernon also. So yet another real estate place on a street that is littered with them already.
