P.S. 78 at 48-09 Center Blvd.

March 13, 2019 By Jon Cronin

Nearly 60 Long Island City businesses will be showcasing their products and services at the Plaxall Gallery March 30 as part of a fundraiser organized by the P.S. /I.S. 78Q PTA.

The event, dubbed LIC-CON, aims to provide business owners with a forum to meet residents, many of whom are parents with children at the Pre-K through 8th grade school.

Each participating business is paying between $100 and $150 to attend, with the funds going directly to the PTA to fund its art, language, recess and science programs.

The PTA has signed up local dentists, doctors, summer camp organizers, sports groups, martial arts instructors, real estate agents, financial planners and restaurants.

Plaxall is donating the space and the event will be staffed by PTA volunteers.

Many of the businesses will be offering live demonstrations or giving away samples. The event will also feature free skin cancer screenings, as well as an oral cancer screening by Pro Health Dental

“The primary goal of LIC-CON is to connect Long Island City residents and businesses together,” said event co-organizer and Co-Vice President of the PTA Charmaine Mendoza.

Some of the businesses that have signed up include: Pro-Health Dental, Tiger J Taekwondo, Hinds Combat Sports, Gantry Kids, Playday, City Owlets, Snapology, Cosmic Fit Club, Chelsea Pediatric Dentistry, LIC Youth Soccer Academy, YMCA LIC, Dynasty Breaking NYC Inc., Bridgeview School of Fine Arts and InstaVet.

The event will be free and the businesses will not be selling items. Restaurants and local food producers will be providing free samples.

Kelly Craig, LIC-CON co-organizer, said the event is a win-win for the community. “It’s an opportunity for us to raise much needed funds for the school, yet also promote local businesses in LIC and help them get their services in front of the community.”

Businesses still have time to sign up to be part of the event.

Details:

LIC-CON will be held on Saturday, March 30 from 10.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m. in Plaxall Gallery, 5-25 46th Ave Long Island City.
