It’s a dog eat dog world and competition among veterinarians in Court Square is about to heat up as three clinics are set to open this summer.
The operators of the clinics all say that there is a need for their service in Court Square since the area is undergoing significant growth and is populated by pet owners. The operators all planned to come to the neighborhood prior to the Amazon announcement.
One of the clinics that is set to open has a location on Vernon Boulevard, while the two others will be new entrants to the Long Island City market.
The Long Island City Veterinary Center, located at 48-18 Vernon Blvd., will be opening a new clinic—to be called The Veterinarians at Court Square—at 27-19 44th Drive this summer.
Ricardo Pacova, manager of the practice, said that the firm decided to open the new facility so it could keep pace with the influx of new residents to the neighborhood.
“We have been growing as the community has been growing,” Pacova said, who noted the Vernon Boulevard clinic opened in 2012. “We have got to the point where the facility on Vernon Boulevard is not big enough and that we need to open another location.”
Pacova said that a lot of pet owners have also been asking them to open a clinic in Court Square.
The new location will include many of the same veterinarians who staff the Vernon Boulevard practice. The existing practice usually has two to three veterinarians working each day—although it draws from six veterinarians.
Pacova said the Court Square clinic will be the firm’s third location. The owner, Keith Manning, has a clinic on the Upper East Side that he has operated for more than 30 years.
Meanwhile, a new clinic, called InstaVet Pet Care, will be opening at 44-16 23rd St. this summer.
The owner, Elijah Kliger, said that the office will be his first physical location.
Instavet, which he founded in 2014, provides its clients with home visits through a network of veterinarians.
Kliger said he is affiliated with clinics throughout the metro area and his service provides home visits to pet owners who are often elderly or disabled.
Kliger’s clinic will be about 4,500 square feet and will be open 24 x 7 offering advanced emergency care. He said that it will offer the most up-to-date technology.
“There is so much activity in Long Island City that’s why I’m opening here,” Kliger said last week.
Another clinic that is coming to the area will open at 42-38 Crescent St., and will be aptly called the Court Square Animal Hospital.
The Court Square Animal hospital is part of a chain that includes five clinics on Long Island. The facility is expected to open in June.

Plenty of care for the dogs but what about the people? Where are all the doctors in the area. Wait, there are barely any…
Yeah I just wish that that damn owners would clean up after their poochs! Most of the time I have to zigzag around it, just nasty. Even if they scoop it it’s on the sidewalk, it really should be on the street, ugh. I guess along with new towers being built even more dog owners will move in, that’s fine but please please curb your dog. Thank you!
Was this cleared by Van Bramer and Giannaris? Will the Vet’s be union? Will there be affordable cages set aside for minority dogs and cats?
