Long Island City will soon be directly connected to Manhattan’s Lower East Side, with a new ferry route launching this month.

The Lower East Side route, launching on Aug. 29, has five stops, and goes from Gantry Plaza State Park in Long Island City to Wall Street – Pier 11.

Stops on the new route include East 34th Street, Stuyvesant Cove, and Corlears Hook, with the latter two being completely new docking sites to the NYC Ferry system.

The route will take 32 minutes from start to finish, and a one-way fare costs $2.75, the same as a subway ride.

“For the same cost of a subway ride, New Yorkers that live and work in these communities will now have a fast, affordable and convenient way to get around the city,” said James Patchett, NYCEDC President.

The Lower East Side route is launching two weeks after the new Soundview Route’s launch, which travels from the Bronx to Manhattan’s Upper East Side and down to Wall Street.

The city announced the addition of the two new routes earlier this year, bringing the total number of NYC Ferry routes to six.

It won’t be enough for L shut down or to help transit down the line. I helps but not much. Ferries hold about 100 people.

Very nice! Looking forward to a pleasant experience! An alternative to the subway, bus or car!
