A small Long Island City garage surrounded by new development will be facing the wrecking ball.
Demolition permits have been filed for the one-story garage at 27-19 Thomson Ave. in Court Square. The garage, in a lot area of 3,600 square feet, is across the street from The Forge, Arris Lofts, and a block away from the Citigroup Building at One Court Square.
The garage is currently the site of “Manny Auto Electric”, a longstanding auto repair and diagnostic shop.
The shop owner was not available to speak to the LIC Post when reached by telephone.
Records show, however, that the prior owner of the property, Lema Properties, sold the site to Thomson Development for $6.85 million on July 3.
The new owner of the site is listed as Tom Wu, who is also the developer behind “5 Court Square”, the upcoming 11-story building set to rise directly behind the garage and in the works since 2014.
It is unclear if the site where the garage stands will be part of the 5 Court Square development.
Wu was unable to be reached by telephone, and did not immediately respond to questions sent via e-mail about the demolition permits and project site.

Their are just many people moving in long island city. Traffic pollution and sheer volume of people is sicking. Lic was a great place to live. Now its horribly over crowded.
Another one
Are there any petroleum tanks at the site? If so … uh oh!
“don’t worry Mr. JVB is getting more money in his pockets for this – you can count on that.”
It’s amazing that, even after going through a period during which it re-considered its comment policy, LIC Post still allows this bullshit. I may not be JVB’s biggest fan, but this is straight-up libel and this site shouldn’t continue to echo it.
If you have real evidence that JVB is accepting illegal bribes, either provide it or shut the fuck up.
Pretty soon we will all be speaking Chinese and they will own the US.
We need more small businesses not less. Domino’s Pizza was on that block and had to move along with a corner bodega. Manny’s will be missed. All this for another STUPID LUXURY CONDO. More Hotels that will be homeless shelters are coming soon also. The Big boarded up lot on Jackson Ave for about 10 years now also took some small businesses away and forced one to relocate to a much, much smaller space. Cathy Nolan is right to call for a moratorium on all building until the infrastructure catches up with the building. We don’t NEED ANY NORE BIG BUILDINGS IN LIC. Come on with the dislikes developers who troll this site.
You voted for the greediest luxury condo developer of them all, now they are much more powerful. Thanks for being the problem, we are laughing at you.
Tired MRIRONY ,just Tried. Same Old Same Old.
The FAKE MRLIC wrote the comment on July 18, 2018 about the greedy luxury condo developer.
So sad, more crowding. That place is awesome. I know many people who have had repairs there.
WHY are you complaining about crowding in New York City?
NYC’s population keeps growing and housing needs to be built somewhere. There has been plenty of studies showing that housing going up in places like LIC (even luxury housing) reduces rents in nearby communities.
What happens if you don’t build new housing is that people will move into other neighborhoods and renovate the housing instead. A greater number of people fighting over a stagnant number of homes, causing rents to skyrocket.
Make LIC as dense as Manhattan or Hong Kong and push all the rich people there.
I took a walk today from Queens Plaza to the Citi building. All I saw was housing, housing, housing, dentist, hotel, dry cleaner, luxury housing, dry cleaner, luxury housing, wine store, hotel, dry cleaner, small cafe, Food cellar… where’s the diversity? Building more luxury housing isn’t going to help here. The whole area has been incredibly overbuilt because no one truly cares to plan and greed is prevalent. As far as the overcrowding, when the next Hurricane Sandy threatens us and you’re standing in a line 500-deep in Food Cellar or Key Food and there’s no supplies, maybe then you’ll get it. Crawl back into your delusion real estate hell hole please.
An increase in housing supply in LIC will result in reduced rents in places like Sunnyside, Astoria, Forest Hills, etc.
Studies show that even for just luxury housing, if you’re not building new housing for this market segment landlords will just convert EXISTING housing to luxury housing.
Incorrect. Try again. There will be more homeless people than anything because they can’t afford any of the housing being built. If it were that simple, why are they so focused on homeless shelters and not building housing that’s actually affordable for people in those shelters?
Are you joking building luxury only increases the rents in surrounding neighborhoods idiot. What bull shit world do you live in? No one wants people like you their go back to the state you came from loser!
While it’s possible to induce more demand for housing by building more, generally increasing the housing supply will either reduce or stabilize prices.
Rents in Sunnyside and Astoria (while still too high) have actually been declining over the past year.
Oh great another greedy luxury condo developer, like the president I voted for replacing a local business.
Why spend all that money just got something worse? That would be like Trump illegally spending $130k in campaign funds to bang Stormy Daniels even though he already had a pregnant wife.
I hope they don’t use illegal immigrants to build it, the way Trump usually does. Fox News told me the women and children seeking political asylum are scary.
People are so obsessed with Trump. Life is more than trump….
Good.
don’t worry Mr. JVB is getting more money in his pockets for this – you can count on that.
