The Hunters Point Parks Conservancy is inviting the community to attend its monthly meeting tomorrow, where the expansion of the park and its programming will be discussed.
The public meeting will begin at 7 pm at the New York Irish Center, located at 1040 Jackson Ave.
Representatives from the city’s Economic Development Corporation will provide an update on Phase 2 of Hunters Point South Park, the 5.5 acre section of the waterfront park below 54th Avenue and wrapping around the Newtown Creek, according to Rob Basch, HPPC President.
The EDC said in March that the new section is expected to open in the late spring or early summer, and that it is working with NYC Parks on finalizing the opening day.
The HPPC will also announce the majority of its summer programming schedule. Events seen in past years included film screenings, gardening, silent disco, and live music. The events this season also come after the group launched their first survey directly asking the public for their input on activities. Movies, music, and yoga were ranked among the most desired activities.

Spigots of beer! Gallons of sangria! Music! Tables outside?!?!?!?!?! Hath god forsaken us?
Hunter’s Point Parks Conservancy is misnamed: It is an organization promoting activities enabling “Coffeed” to continue spigoting beer and selling gallons of sangria at tables outside the building. The company built and privatized Parks space–no outside food or drinks. Whatever the concession fee, it cannot make up for the day and night LOUD music disturbing park-goers and neighbors.
“Coffeed is a beer and wine selling anti-Parks enterprise that funds the “Conservancy”–please see the expression of gratitude on the “Conservancy” site.
Check your facts. The Conservancy has received any funds from Coffeed in over a year. It is funded with grants, memberships and sponsorships at events like the 5k race. People who think the Conservancy is some kind of money grab in the neighborhood have no clue of the truth. Every person on that group is a volunteer and most of them live right across from the park and have been working their asses off to get trashcans, restrooms, additional workers, shade for the playground. Lack of knowledge and an unwillingness to seek the truth makes you look like a imbecile.
Someone should tell the BOZO’S from the EDC besides their Phase II HP project , there are 33 more Hotels to be built in LIC. The 958 unit Durst Building at Queens Plaza. Where will these people fit on our trains and roads? It is congested enough here already. GREED IS GOOD IN LIC. NO
