Sweetchick, the restaurant chain most known for its chicken and waffles, will open its doors today on Vernon Boulevard.
The eatery, located at 46-42 Vernon Blvd., serves a variety of Southern comfort foods including crusted catfish, duck and short rib meatloaf, and shrimp and grits. Brunch items include eggs Benedict, mac and cheese, and bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. Main plates vary between $9.00 and $26.00.
Dessert items include donut ice cream sandwiches, bourbon apple cobbler, and chocolate latte cake.
Sweet Chick also offers over 10 custom cocktails with names like “Christopher Wallace”, “Purple Drank”, and “Cuffin Season”.
The restaurant chain was founded in 2013 by John Seymour, who opened his first Sweet Chick restaurant in Williamsburg. The restaurant soon got the attention of Nas, who invested in and eventually became the co-founder of the chain. He is credited with spreading Sweet Chick to the west coast. Sweet Chick’s Vernon Boulevard location, which was announced in November, marks the fifth for the chain.
The new restaurant will also feature a back room designed to look like old Harlem jazz clubs and as a tribute to Nas’ father, Olu Dara, a jazz musician. The back room will be available for parties and events.
Dinner service begins at 6 p.m. for the restaurant’s opening week, but hours will soon be from 11 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, and until 2 a.m. on Friday. Weekends will see a 10 a.m. opening, closing at 2 a.m on Saturday and midnight on Sunday.

I like Blend on Vernon Blvd. Their food never disappoints. There are two Japanese restaurants as well. One is Marusaki, the salads and sushi rolls are delicious and so FRESH! The times of gone, it’s empty. I don’t know why except maybe it’s a little too far north and people don’t want to walk? I really love their food and service is very nice. There’s the other spot and it’s mostly a noodle spot, it’s really good, Tamashii Ramen.
BUT if you really want a cheap Japanese ramen noodle spot, you’d have to go to the hood. OMGosh!!! The soup is off the chain and it’s cheap and like a small dive spot BUT I highly recommend it. Ramen Shack. https://www.ramenshack.com/

Casa enrique, mu ramen, sushi daizen, maiella, manetta’s, blend… these are all the places that are still around because 95% of their business comes from outside of LIC, they dont depend on the LIC happy hour crowd ,

I am grandfathered in this neighboorhod so its sad to see what it turned into and how people dont APPRECIATE class and culture and quality but look for deals and happy hour at all times . Sad But The Truth
No Parking ANYTIME…and someone is parked there.
Well the neighbors did not want alobar to use that tiny out door space in the back because of the noise it was going to bring and disturb them. Guess what people your in for a rude awakening. 2am now your gonna have the noise out in the front from that type of crowd. #goodluck
Agreed, it’s noisy at their place in Williamsburg with all of the people that wait around outside for a table. Good music though
All you LIC restaurants in the following three categories 1.) Pizza Joint 2.) Salad and Wrap 3.) Coffee places –which is essentially 97% of the neighborhood–get ready to step up your game. Sweet Chick will tear you apart. Great food! Kinda pathetic a Brooklyn establishment has to show you all how its done.
If you knew what you were talking about you would have added Italian, which is not a “pizza joint”, and has a huge presence. Also, Cuban food. There is a Vietnamese restaurant, Thai, a couple Chinese, some Peruvian and a growing selection Mexican food. Awesome barbecue at John Browns. Michelin starred steak house and the only Michelin starred Mexican restaurant in NYC and a few French restaurants. Couple of diners. Sweet Chick might be a nice addition but by no means is it showing pathetic LIC “how it’s done”. Brooklyn… did that already.

LIC is populated with one of the cheapest, low budget individuals in the New York State .
You can bring anything to tbis Neighborhood the outcome will always be the same .
If you look around the LIC neighborhood you will realize that all the classy Neighboorhood spots that acctualy brought culture and class to the neighboorhood have closed down”Linzio, Testtacio/Tuttu Matti, Gizi etc, just to name a few.
Only the low class establishemts manage to stay alive because everyone in LIC is living on a budget and looking for a deal and Happy Hour.

there are plenty. LIC is a competitive neighborhood for middle/high end dining, and if you match the prices without the quality, you’re not gonna make it.
Honestly that’s why most restaurants are closing or rebranding. Low quality and high prices. This neighborhood need better restaurants.
Literally dying at TheTruth even using the word classy, and then having the further nerve to use it to describe some lovely, although average establishments. Take a stadium full of seats.

Linizio had much better pizza than Centros that replaced it. Centros has thick crust, bad sauce, limited variety……no thanks.
Agree re Centro pizza being garbage. Wondering what “thetruth” believes the definition of truth is, as the 3 spots he recognizes as cultured and classy were gimmicky, poorly run and inconsistent.
Don’t understand the ramble here. You are unhappy with how people choose to spend their money? Why is this your business to begin with?
Linizio sucked. The truth is that the people that mostly inhabit LIC today are young families. Young, cash strapped families who are juggling with both parents working, nanny bills, expensive school bills and children who go to bed early. There is little time and money for small, expensive plates and breakfast that begins at 11:00. There are 10 great restaurants that you chose for some reason to leave out. Maiella and Manettas, John Browns, M Wells and Cafe Enrique just to name a few.
Tutti Mati was no good. Rude staff, overpriced meals, small portions. Went once to check it out and never went back. No reason to when Maiella is closer and better in every category (but it’s slipping lately with inconsistent service and quality).
Linizio was the best pizza in the neighborhood, it’s a shame they are gone. Centro and Slice don’t compare.
The problem is LIC can’t get out of it’s own way trying to achieve peak luxury, but honestly most things are just average and high priced. Expensive is not luxury.
Anyway, looking forward to checking this place out. I went to Alobar for brunch a lot when I first moved here. Stopped going when they stopped offering beer batter bacon.
This is an excellent addition to the neighborhood! They’ve got a great track record on the food front and this space is really great. Welcome to LIC, Sweet Chick!
