A pop-up café has opened on Vernon Boulevard in the space occupied by the comedy club The Standing Room.
Sage Coffee opened last week at 47-38 Vernon Boulevard and will be operating between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. most days. The owner aims to gain a following and then open a café in another Long Island City location.
Sage will be operating out of the Vernon Boulevard location indefinitely. However, it will have to close most days by 4 p.m. to ensure that The Standing Room can take the space at night.
“We are trying to develop a proper espresso bar and are experimenting as to what works and what doesn’t,” said manager David Flick. “We hope to get our feet wet here and build clientele.”
The venue currently has a limited menu at this time.

Great coffee!! Try the imported syrups!
Not open this morning? What’s the deal with hours?
Great,More coffee. Just what we need.
There isn’t a kitchen and no extra rent – they are doing it right (with what they have I guess). And coffee is awesome! Was there last Saturday and the staff was super attentive and friendly. They gave me a try of their oat milk because I always take almond. I’m turned!
wonder if this is at all related to the late great Sage General Store by Ct Square.
nope not at all
Good idea but very Pricey I had a small late and paid $4.50 and wasn’t even hot
be smart charge less and sell more if they charge more it will be like I’m not coming back and I’m coffe person
Good luck but Vernon is a terrible breakfast location and a few pastries puts you in the bottom tier of boring pastry shops. If you want to stand out, make a good commuter special with a basic but well made egg and cheese sandwich.
go to nulook by E&I. Their bfast sandwiches are great, and affordable. BEC on a roll with a hashbrown inside!? Winning!
Great Coffee and Great People!
With what’s being offered it would be better to start a breakfast cart instead of a brick and mortar. You’ll never have enough for your rent my friend.
