A raid at the Show Palace strip club in Long Island City resulted in several prostitution arrests early Saturday morning, police said.
The NYPD Vice Unit conducted a raid at around 4 a.m. on Dec. 2 at the strip club, located at 42-50 21st St, police said. As a result, five people were arrested on charges of prostitution.
The NYPD did not immediately respond to questions on those arrested and the nature of the raid.
Show Palace, run by the same operator behind Sin City in the Bronx, and known for its fully-nude dancers, has faced a string of problems since its opening in 2012. The State Liquor Authority has repeatedly denied a liquor license to the locale, citing Long Island City’s growth, and the criminal incidents linked to the locale that have occurred within its five years of operation.
At an SLA hearing in 2016, Community Board 2 and the 108th precinct testified in opposition of the strip joint’s liquor license application. Then-Captain John Travaglia said three of the four shootings that happened within the precinct in 2015 took place in the vicinity of Show Palace. Additional reports of cocaine stings, harassment, assault, and grand larcenies were brought up at the hearing.
The 108th Precinct said Long Island City’s strip clubs, like Show Palace and Secrets, were being closely monitored, and warned that if clubs could not control their patrons, the police would move in to shut them down.
