Nearly 30 acts are scheduled to perform in Long Island City’s Queensboro Dance Festival, a four-day celebration scheduled from Oct. 5 through Oct. 8.
The evening performances will take place at the Secret Theatre, located at 44-02 23rd St., from 7:30 p.m. onward, and will feature Queens-based dance acts with styles including modern, ballet, and jazz, and from cultures including Latin, Indian, and Chinese. Sunday’s event will begin at 5:00 p.m.
The festival, founded by Karesia Batan, an LIC-based choreographer, aims to showcase dance from borough-based artists, and acts as a platform for dancers in the borough to meet.
“The mission is to strengthen the dance identity in Queens and bring the local community together to garner a stronger appreciation for Queens-based dance,” Batan told the LIC Post last year.
The 27 acts, from neighborhoods like Flushing, Astoria, Reno Park, Howard Beach, and Jamaica, will each perform between one to three times throughout the duration of the festival. Acts chosen for the festival were selected to represent an array of high-production, diverse dance styles.
Some dance acts slated to return include Barbara Mahler, Q&A Productions, and NSquared Dance.
Tickets for the festival are $15.00 online and $18.00 at the door. To purchase, and for the full list of dance acts, visit the Queensboro Dance Festival website.
