A new owner has taken over the now-defunct Station LIC and plans to open a restaurant serving regional American cuisine and beer from the local breweries.
The new venue, located at 10-37 Jackson Avenue, will be called Jackson’s and the owner took over the establishment in July after acquiring the lease and other items from the previous owners of Station LIC.
The new owner, who spoke at Community Board 2’s City Services and Public Safety Committee meeting Wednesday, said that the restaurant/bar will look largely the same although there will be some cosmetic changes.
The focus will be on offering American regional cuisine, the owner said, adding that it will be “something that you don’t need a dictionary to decipher as to what you are eating.”
He said he will be serving an array of different items, from vegetable pot pie, buttermilk fried chicken and meatloaf.
The owner said that there will be an emphasis on farm-to-table cuisine and offering beer from all the local breweries.
The new owner did not request changing the operating hours that Station LIC had, which were 5 pm through 2 am Monday through Saturday and 11 am through midnight Sunday. No requests were made for live music or DJs.
Station LIC, a railroad themed establishment, closed in June after being open for 19 months.

Why is there a mustache? Makes no sense. And no Saturday brunch? Also makes no sense.
if they still have no plans on opening before 5pm on a Friday, then they’re destined to end up just like Station.
Yet another restaurant. Does anyone in LIC know how to cook? Kudos to your generation who seem to have the largest disposable income than any that came before it.
Cafe Enrique, Michelin Star, best Mexican in NYC. Alobar, Michelin bib gourmand. M. Wells, Michelin Star, one of the most creative restaurants in the country.
How you doing Astoria?
M.Wells, went there once when they were in that old diner by the LIRR and was so turned off by their lack of cleanliness we left disgusted. Good menu, bad sanitary practices. Hope they got better in that regard. Alobar is another place that seems to constantly have a ‘pending’ grade from the dept. of health. I waited over a year to try them because I refused to go in with a pending grade.
The food was great at Station… its the spot that isn’t ideal (and the frosted windows so you can’t see outside). I’m pretty sure selling meatloaf and fried chicken won’t solve this
…and the frosted windows so you can’t see inside. You never knew what you were walking into. If they got put regular windows in there, the space would be so much more welcoming.
Agree, I thought it was some sort of strip club or speakeasy whenever I walked by.
Agreed. The new design is pretty kitschy, too – poorly painted map of LIC, postcard style mural of LIC, crooked chalk mustache. I’m hoping that the place has improved, but so far the aesthetic isn’t doing it any favors.
We Hipsters have no use for the Locals who have been here forever! they are nothing but Riff Raff
He’s trying to spice up the words “comfort food” by saying regional American cuisine…..just call it what it is.
I’m really interested to see what the reception will be like for someone who is eating a chicken pot pie ($3 to make or less), and drinking an $8 glass of beer……do these things even mesh?
Let;s face it, nothing in LIC is cheap, it’s city prices and doesn’t taste as good. We are one stop away from the city, might as well eat there before heading home.
Very excited about the idea of fresh & healthy food in LIC. We’ve been lacking a healthy alternative for quite some time. Best of luck!
Nothing about fried chicken and pot pie says “healthy” or “fresh” to me.
Also, if its more than $16 a plate then I’m probably not going to eat it either.
Seems a common thing: inexperienced person spends $$$$ to open restaurant, fails, someone else buys it at fire sale price, opens restaurant that does not fail.
In Astoria we have a company called NY Space Finders to thank for that.
They have relationships with local landlords. They lease space to unqualified tenants who sink tons of money into building out the space.
Then when that business fails NY Space Finders sells the lease to a new tenant and cashes in on the deal twice.
Also, they are a joke because they can’t even get local landlords to pay their own commission. basically a discount brokerage.
Glad the space is not going to waste. Good luck to them, I’ll visit soon.
I stand correct it….Sage once served fried chicken before going towards the brunch crap. Pity….survived decades with chicken and potatoes type food…but sank ship the moment the brunch crap came in.
Slice was previously a fried chicken spot (papos?) and it was there a pretty long time.
you mean the worst rated joint in all of lic with health violations even bigger than the beards of all of the hipsters in sweet leaf combined–and that’s big! But yes, they did last a long time.
‘stand corrected’
Also, brunch is one of the most popular and profitable meals for a restaurant. Your personal dislike for it has no bearing on that fact.
Yep. Back of house uses all the protein and perishable left over from the week, requires less front of house staff because there is less time pressure. Also the profit margin on mimosas and bloodies is (inexpensive liquor + quality juice) is about 70%. The economics on brunch are great, even if half as many tables turn over as during dinner. Not that I know anything about it.
Smart man. “something that you’ don’t need a dictionary to deciper” Oh yea, He’s definitely been following my restaurant commandments. Congrats. You have made LIC history by being the first establishment to serve fried chicken and meatloaf–food LIC residents “thnks” they are too good for, but actually eat the most. Mark my words.
Bareburger, KSFC, Palace Fried Chicken and Woodbines have fried chicken.
And you are definitely the one that us LIC residents elected as our food czar. Meatloaf?! Seriously? I have never ordered meatloaf at a restaurant in my life. Why don’t you open a restaurant that specializes in fried chicken and meatloaf if you are so sure that that is what LIC residents want to eat. I have been ignoring your narcissistic posts for too long. Nobody is insulting you but you constantly tell us what we want to eat and what restaurants should do and then you congratulate yourself for being so smart while belittling LIC residents for being “too good for meatloaf”. If you won’t open a restaurant, something that you are “obviously” very good at, then grace us with your “commandments” in a book on the restaurant industry. Share your knowledge with the world!
Paul, just microwave your frozen Stouffer’s TV dinners and leave the rest of us alone.
Actually Paul, Sage General Store served meatloaf every Monday and authentic skillet-fried chicken every Wednesday for almost nine years. Booming lunch business–the problem was few people came for dinner as it was over by Court Square in the “Citibank” part of town. Good luck to these guys–I agree it’s what we are missing.among all the noodle, sushi and Italian joints.
