Long Island City will be celebrating “community unity” with an end of summer block party Wednesday.

Offering free food from local restaurants, games, and dancing, the 21st annual community unity event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at Shady Park on 49th Avenue between Vernon Ave. and 5th Street.

“I’m so glad to have this event because LIC has been developing so much, but it keeps the spirit of the old neighborhood alive, while embracing the new neighborhood and community as well,” said Brent O’Leary, the president of the Hunters Point Civic Association.

The free event will have food from several local restaurants, including Madera and Casa Enrique, as well as a bouncy house, clown, salsa, tango and Irish step dance performances, and DJ Israel Martinez playing music throughout the evening.

“There are so many neighborhoods in New York, but most just don’t have the same community and neighborhood feeling that we do,” O’Leary said. “And we want to celebrate that.”

The evening is hosted as a collaboration between Terri Adams of the Hunters Point Community Development Corporation and the HPCA.
