Fire breaks out in LIC near Howard Johnson Hotel

A fire broke out in Long Island City Sunday across the street from the Sleep Inn Hotel and near the Howard Johnson.

The fire was first reported at about 3:45 pm and what was initially considered a 2-alarm fire quickly escalated to a 3-alarm fire, according to the FDNY.

The fire was started at a drycleaner located at a 38-68 13th Street and spread. Smoke billowed across the surrounding area.

By 5:30 the fire had yet to be contained.
